IMPORTANCE OF RECYCLING VIA CAREton PROGRAMME IN SCHOOLS
IPOH, 23 SEPTEMBER 2025 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) Councillor Lawrence A/L Palanisamy called on school communities to adopt an eco-friendly lifestyle by emphasising cleanliness and supporting the CAREton Programme, an initiative for recycling beverage cartons.
He said this during an event with students and educators at several schools in Ipoh, including SJKT St. Philomena Convent, SK Tarcisian Convent and SJK (T) Sangeetha Sabah.
According to him, the CAREton Programme focuses on recycling beverage cartons so that they do not end up as waste that pollutes the environment.
"With the involvement of all parties, we not only help preserve the Earth for future generations, but also instill a caring and responsible attitude towards the environment in every member of the community," he said.
In his speech, he also stressed that cleanliness is a shared responsibility, especially in schools. Students are encouraged to use the rubbish bins provided and to separate recyclable materials, such as beverage cartons, plastic bottles and paper.
"Every big change begins with a small step. If each of us starts with recycling practices and maintaining cleanliness, it will certainly have a significant impact on environmental sustainability," he added.
The event, held on 23 September 2025, took place at three schools starting at 7.45 am at SJKT St. Philomena Convent, continuing at 10.30 am at SK Tarcisian Convent, and concluding around 12.00 noon at SJK (T) Sangeetha Sabah.
The programme was also attended by headmasters, teachers and students who actively participated in the recycling activities conducted.
