STORM AND FALLEN TREES IN IPOH CITY

Ipoh City Council (MBI) would like to inform that a storm with strong winds occurred at about 6:30 pm on 13 February 2026, affecting several areas around Ipoh city. Among the locations affected were the City Centre, Bercham, Taman Perpaduan, Ulu Kinta and several other areas.

The incident caused many trees to fall and branches to break, obstructing routes and posing safety risks to the public. Based on the situation that can be categorised as a disaster, several MBI departments carried out immediate and coordinated actions to control the situation and conduct clean-up operations.

The Parks and Landscape Department, Public Works Department, and Public Health and City Services Department were mobilised to carry out clearing work and removal of fallen trees. The operation involved the use of assets and machinery, such as skylifts, open lorries, RORO bins, bulldozers and excavators to expedite the removal of fallen trees and pruning debris at the affected locations.

At the same time, the Enforcement and Safety Department took early action by closing off affected areas using safety tapes and cones as a precautionary measure and to inform the public. Information and coordinates of locations of fallen trees were also channelled to the relevant departments to ensure that clean-up actions can be carried out in an organised and efficient manner.

Besides the MBI departments, the operation also received cooperation from the Malaysia Fire and Rescue Department, Malaysian Civil Defence Force (APM), Tenaga Nasional Berhad (TNB) and Volunteer Fire Brigades around Ipoh, in helping to expedite the clean-up works and ensuring public safety is maintained.

The clean-up works on 13 February 2026 focused on reopening main routes blocked by fallen trees to ensure smooth traffic flow. The operation was successfully completed at around 2.00 am. Follow-up work continued with the collection and clearing of remaining tree debris at various locations in the city and is expected to take two days to be fully completed.
