CITY MAYOR OFFICIALLY ORGANIZES GLOBAL DONUT DAY 2024 PROGRAM AT IPOH CITY
13 November 2024-Y.Bhg. Dato' Rumaiizi bin Baharin@Md Daud, Mayor of Ipoh, officiated the Global Doughnut Day 2024 at the Ipoh City Level at the SK Marian Convent Hall this morning.
It was also attended by Dr. Maisarah Ahmad Chief Executive Officer, Institut Darul Ridzuan, Tuan Abdul Halim bin Saad, Senior Director-Administration & Operations MBI representing the City Secretary, Puan Saidatul Maisarah Faiesall, Head of Policy Strategy Advocacy Unit, Sunway Centre for Planetary Health, Sunway University, Encik Zulkafli bin Mohamed Mokhtar, Deputy Director of the Student Development Sector, Perak State Education Department, Puan Noni Junaidah binti Mohd Yunos, Senior Assistant to the Administration, SK Marian Convent and Cik Nadiah Amirah binti Noor Azlan, Yayasan Hasanah.
World Donut Economics Day in Ipoh City. Global Doughnut Economics Day or Global Donut Day is celebrated in November every year with various interesting events. In 2023, it will be celebrated on Low Carbon Day@Ipoh with various events such as the Global Donut Day Fun Run and Quizzes as well as Exhibitions related to Ipoh Donut Economic City 2027 which are open to the public.
This year, the approach is taken to promote the concept of the donut economy to primary school students because they are the ones who will inherit this planet in the future.
Congratulations are recorded to all involved, especially the Perak State Education Department, Kinta Utara District Education Office, SK Marian Convent Host School, as well as the participating schools namely SJKC Ave Maria, SJKT Kg. Simee, SK Seri Ampang, and SK Pasukan Polis Hutan, as well as the strategic partners of the Ipoh City Council in implementing Ipoh Donut Economic City namely Institut Darul Ridzuan IDR, Sunway Centre for Planetary Health, Sunway University, and Yayasan Hasanah.
In any endeavor, close cooperation between all parties is very important to achieve goals and success. In an effort to make Ipoh a Donut Economy City 2027 as desired by the Perak State Government in the Perak Sejahtara 2030 Plan, the Ipoh City Council has signed an MOU with the Darul Ridzuan Institute as the representative and "think tank" of the Perak State Government and Sunway Centre for Planetary Health, Sunway University as a knowledge partner.

stated that this close collaboration has borne fruit, with several successes achieved for the city of Ipoh not only locally but also internationally.
According to him, recently during World Habitat Day, the Doughnut Economy Program was awarded the United Nations 2024 Scroll of Honour Award by UN Habitat in the city of Queretaro near Mexico City in the Republic of Mexico for its efforts to move from a resource-intensive economy towards a circular economy and a regenerative economy.
Some other successes include the award from the Commonwealth Association of Planners for the Rejuvenation of Concubine Lane in the category of planning and conservation of the built environment for Lorong Panglima or Concubine Lane in Ipoh Old Town.
Various other efforts have been implemented with various parties by giving priority to cooperation which is highly emphasized under the 17th Sustainable Development Goals, SDG 17, namely Collaboration to Achieve the Success of other SDGs.
Hopefully, this event will help MBI realize its desire to make Ipoh a Donut Economic City 2027 and a Prosperous Smart City.
