MAYOR OF IPOH LAUNCHES MBI LEVEL OSH-WEEK 2025

IPOH, 15 JULY 2025 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) remains committed in strengthening a safe and healthy work culture via the organisation of the MBI level Occupational Safety and Health Week (OSH-Week) 2025, officially launched this morning by Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah at the MBI Operations Room.

With the theme "Revolutionising Occupational Safety and Health: The Role of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Digitalisation in the Workplace", this year's OSH-Week addresses the urgent need to leverage modern technology in managing workplace risks in line with the changing employment landscape in the era of the Industrial Revolution 5.0.

According to the Mayor, the use of technologies such as artificial intelligence (AI) and automation can be leveraged in real-time monitoring systems, ergonomic risk detection, and accident data analysis for prevention purposes.

"It is time for occupational safety and health aspects to also evolve in tandem with technological progress. Digitalisation enables risk briefings and safety training to be conducted more effectively and interactively," he said.

In his speech, he also expressed appreciation to the MBI Occupational Safety and Health Committee (JKKP) for the meticulous planning and high-impact implementation of this year's OSH-Week.

Among the main objectives of organising OSH-Week are:

Raising awareness and cultivating a safe work culture among employees and the community;

Disseminating up-to-date information related to occupational safety and health;

Encouraging active participation of the workforce in various OSH programmes;

Reducing the risks of occupational accidents and diseases; and

Ensuring compliance with relevant legislation.

Throughout the week, various activities are scheduled to be held, including Safe Driving Course with JPJ, Basic Occupational First Aid Course (BOFA), Chemical & Ergonomics Management Briefing, Commuting Safety Support Programme (CSSP), as well as special MBI & Anda broadcasts on radio and YouTube channels.

The Mayor also emphasised the importance of embracing a zero-accident mindset among civil servants and reminded that compliance with SOPs should not only occur when there is enforcement, but must become a continuous practice.

The event concluded with the official launch of OSH-Week 2025 by the Mayor, accompanied by resounding applause from the audience as a sign of support for efforts to improve occupational safety and health at MBI.
