KUALA LUMPUR, 12 FEBRUARY 2026 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) today recorded another proud achievement today when it received two prestigious recognitions at the 2025 Low Carbon City Award Ceremony under the Low Carbon Cities Framework (LCCF) rating.
The award presentation ceremony was officiated by Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) Minister Datuk Seri Arthur Joseph Kurup.
The award is part of the Low Carbon Cities Framework (LCCF) initiative led by the Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRES) Ministry and implemented by the Malaysian Green Technology and Climate Change Corporation (MGTC).
The recognitions received by MBI are as follows:
- LCCF – 5 Diamond Award for the Ipoh Central Planning Area;
- LCCF – 3 Diamond Award for the UTC Perak Building.
The 5 Diamond achievement for the Ipoh Central Planning Area is the highest level in the LCCF rating system and reflects MBI’s continuous commitment to implementing comprehensive low-carbon development initiatives.
These efforts include more efficient energy management, reduction of carbon emissions, sustainable waste management and the implementation of green mobility elements in the city centre.
Meanwhile, the 3 Diamond recognition for the UTC Perak Building proves the effectiveness of implementing green practices at the building level, including electricity energy savings, efficient operational management and increased awareness of low-carbon practices among staff and facility users.
“This recognition not only enhances Ipoh’s image as a progressive and sustainable city, but also strengthens our commitment to continuously empower the implementation of low-carbon policies and initiatives for the well-being of future generations,” said the Mayor of Ipoh.
MBI will continue to be committed to expanding the implementation of the low-carbon city action plan in line with the nation’s sustainable development aspirations and efforts to address the challenges of global climate change.
