OPENING CEREMONY OF PASIR PUTEH TEMPORARY MARKET AND MADANI RECREATIONAL PARK (TRM) @ BOON BAK, IPOH
IPOH, 2 NOVEMBER 2025 (SUNDAY) – The Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT) in collaboration with Ipoh City Council (MBI) today held the Opening Ceremony of the Pasir Puteh Temporary Market and Madani Recreational Park (TRM) @ Boon Bak, which was officiated by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.
Also present were Deputy State Assembly Speaker Jenny Choy Tsi Jen, Local Government Department Director-General Dato’ Mohd Fadzli Mohd Kenali, National Landscape Department Deputy Director-General (Policy) Ahmad Syaharuddin Kamaruddin, Ipoh Timor Member of Parliament Howard Lee Chuan How, Pasir Pinji State Assemblyman Goh See Hua, State Assemblymen, City Councillors and MBI Heads of Departments and Units.
The event was also attended by Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah, who stressed MBI’s commitment to ensuring the development of Ipoh City continues to run smoothly and achieves its goal of making Ipoh a Smart and Prosperous City.
PASIR PUTEH TEMPORARY MARKET, IPOH
On 13 February 2024, the Pasir Puteh Wet Market was struck by a major fire that destroyed nearly 90% of its original structure, including electrical, mechanical systems and basic facilities. The incident caused market operations to be completely halted for almost three months, affecting 86 traders and disrupting the local community’s economic activities.
Out of 175 stall lots, only 25 were unaffected. Major damages included the roof structure, electrical wiring, business furniture, public toilets, drainage system and security fencing.
To ensure economic continuity and the traders’ welfare, the Pasir Puteh Temporary Market was built with the objective of providing a comfortable, clean and safe temporary facility, involving more than 26,000 residents of Mukim Ipoh, Ulu Kinta, and 710,798 residents of Ipoh City (Source: Kinta District and Land Office).
The project construction started on 15 October 2024 and was completed on 29 July 2025, with an implementation period of 9 months and a total cost of RM1,425,000.00.
The total allocation was RM1,425,000.00, RM1,000,000.00 from the allocation of the Ministry of Housing and Local Government (KPKT), while another RM425,000.00 from the allocation of the Ipoh City Council (MBI).
The project scope included the installation of a 30m x 35m Marquee Tent (reusable); the provision of trading spaces according to category (wet goods, dry goods, groceries and ready-to-eat food); the construction of public facilities such as toilets, parking spaces, drainage systems and area lighting; as well as the provision of electrical equipment and other support facilities for the comfort of traders and visitors.
MADANI RECREATIONAL PARK (TRM) @ BOON BAK
The implementation of Madani Recreational Park (TRM) is part of the MADANI Government’s initiative to improve the quality of life of the people through the provision of green spaces and inclusive public recreational areas.
In 2024, the Ipoh City Council (MBI) received an allocation of RM5.4 million from the Local Government Department (LGD) to develop 12 TRM areas around Ipoh City, with each park costing RM450,000.00. The project began at the end of 2024 and was fully completed in July 2025.
For TRM @ Boon Bak, construction work began on 14 October 2024 and was completed on 3 February 2025, with an implementation period of 16 weeks and a total cost of RM450,000.00.
The facilities provided include children’s playground equipment and an outdoor gym, pedestrian walkways and jogging tracks, garden furniture such as benches and covered rest areas, an open plaza for community activities, as well as the repair of goalposts and safety barriers.
The main objective of TRM development is to provide leisure and recreation spaces for all segments of society, promote a healthy and active lifestyle, strengthen local community social networks and beautify the area to enhance the cheerfulness of the environment.
Ipoh City Council (MBI) calls on all members of the public to use TRM facilities responsibly, avoid vandalism, and educate the younger generation to appreciate public property.
The cooperation of all parties at home, in schools, public areas and within community leadership is very important to ensure that these public facilities remain in good condition and can be enjoyed by all the people without incurring additional maintenance costs.
