OVER 2,000 CITY RESIDENTS ENLIVEN IPOH LOW CARBON DAY (ILCD) 84TH EDITION
IPOH, 23 NOVEMBER 2025 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) once again successfully organised the Ipoh Low Carbon Day (ILCD) 84th edition, which was held in a lively atmosphere at Dataran Ipoh, with the attendance of more than 2,000 city residents.
The ILCD programme continues to be one of MBI’s most important initiatives in realising the aspiration of making Ipoh a Low Carbon City, in line with the Low Carbon Cities 2030 Challenge (LCC2030C) organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRECC). This effort highlights MBI’s ongoing commitment to raising public awareness on the importance of reducing carbon emission intensity in Ipoh city, aligning with the national goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030.
Besides promoting a healthy and sustainable lifestyle, ILCD is also the best platform for strengthening relationships among city residents and making the most of weekends with family members through various recreational activities.
This edition carried the theme of World Children’s Day, celebrated every 20 November as a symbolic recognition of the rights, well-being and happiness of children worldwide. The theme reminds society that every child, regardless of race, religion or background, deserves to be protected, respected and empowered. It also emphasises that children are a valuable gift that deserve to be raised with love, care and responsibility.
This year’s World Children’s Day Celebration @ ILCD was enlivened with a Colouring Contest that brought together 100 participants aged between 6 and 12, with various exciting prizes provided. The opening ceremony was officiated by MBI Councillors Toh Amar Pahlawan Dato' Ahmad Hariri Kamarudin and Clr. Zakaria Mohamed, representing Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah. Also present was MBI Doughnut Economy City Secretariat Chief Executive Officer TPr. Dr. Zulqarnain Mohamed.
The programme was further enlivened with a taekwondo performance by the children of MBI staff, which not only brightened up the atmosphere but also fostered family spirit and strengthened community bonds among the participants and visitors.
