IPOH CITY COUNCIL GAZETTES CONFIRMATION OF NEW ASSESSMENT LIST WITH REDUCTION IN ASSESSMENT TAX RATES

The Perak State Executive Council (MMK) on 11 December 2024 has approved the New Valuation List for all rateable properties within MBI’s administrative area with a reduction in the Assessment Tax rates. Most of the Assessment Taxes have been reduced from 0.25% - 2% depending on the type of building. The confirmation of the New Assessment List was published in the Perak State Government Gazette on 26 December 2024.

MBI has also conducted several engagement sessions with property owners. An engagement session with residents/property owners was held on 12 November 2024. About 900 people attended to review the New Valuation List. A session with the Perak State Assemblymen and Members of Parliament within MBI’s jurisdiction was also held on 26 November 2024.

MBI also held engagement sessions with the Federation of Malaysian Manufacturers (FMM) Perak Branch, Perak Malay Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DPMM), Perak Chinese Chamber of Commerce and Industry (PCCCI), Perak Indian Chamber of Commerce (PICC), and Malaysian International Chamber of Commerce and Industry (MICCI) Perak on 18 December 2024. Through these sessions, a resolution was reached, i.e. to establish an Arbitration Committee comprising a panel of 3 Council Members, representatives of the associations involved, MBI's Valuation and Property Department, and chaired by a Council Member.

MBI had held the Phase 1 Objection Hearing session on 6 December 2024 involving 80 property owners. The Phase 2 Objection Hearing session will continue from 7 January 2025, until mid-March 2025.

The findings from the engagement sessions and the Objection Hearing sessions will be used as the basis in determining the assessment tax.
