IPOH HALF MARATHON @ IPOH LOW CARBON DAY 2025
IPOH, 26 OCTOBER 2025 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) today successfully organised the 83rd Edition of the Ipoh Low Carbon Day (ILCD) programme at Dataran Bandaraya Ipoh.
The organisation this time was more eventful with the Ipoh Half Marathon (IHM) @ Ipoh Low Carbon Day 2025, now entering its second year.
The Ipoh Low Carbon Day (ILCD) programme remains as one of MBI’s main initiatives in realising the transformation of Ipoh as a Low Carbon City, in line with the Low Carbon City 2030 Challenge (LCC2030C) organised by the Ministry of Natural Resources and Environmental Sustainability (NRECC).
This effort reflects MBI’s ongoing commitment to raising public awareness on reducing carbon emission intensity in Ipoh city, in line with the national goal of reducing greenhouse gas emissions by 45% by 2030.
This edition of ILCD received overwhelming response with an attendance of over 4,000 participants from home and abroad. Of this total, 2,500 runners participated in the Ipoh Half Marathon (IHM), which involved three main categories, i.e., the 21 km Half Marathon flagged off at 3.00 am, the 10 km run at 4.00 am and the 5 km Fun Run at 7.30 am.
The flag-off ceremony for the 5 km category was officiated by Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah.
The theme of this year’s ILCD is “Access to Mental Health Services When Facing Disasters and Emergencies” in conjunction with World Mental Health Awareness Month (World Mental Health Day), which is celebrated in October.
It aims to raise public awareness on the importance of mental and emotional well-being, especially in facing various life challenges, and making the community more empathetic, caring and resilient in dealing with stress and crises.
Each IHM participant received an official T-shirt, participation medal, timing chip, bib number, e-certificate and goodies. The winners in each category also took home cash prizes and trophies, while the lucky draw event offered bicycles and electrical appliances as the main prizes.
The programme was further enlivened with a taekwondo performance by the children of MBI staff, adding to the cheerful family atmosphere and community spirit among the participants and visitors.
The Ipoh Half Marathon @ Ipoh Low Carbon Day 2025 not only achieved the objective of strengthening awareness of a low-carbon lifestyle, but also had a positive impact on the physical and mental well-being of participants and the local community.
