IPOH MAYOR'S GOING DOWN TO THE GROUND (TURPA) PROGRAMME TO JALAN JUMBO JET AND JALAN CONCORDE, TAMAN LAPANGAN TERBANG, IPOH

IPOH, 20 JUNE 2025 – Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah went down to the ground this morning to the Jalan Jumbo Jet and Jalan Concorde, Taman Lapangan Terbang areas to assess issues related to the implementation of a one-way street, that has raised concerns among local residents.

Also present during the visit were Council Members Clr. Azmy Mohamed Nazir, Clr. Muhammad Hamzah Md Hamdan and Clr. Mohamed Helmi Mohamed Fuzi, City Secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak, Senior Director (Technical) A’zman Mohd Harun and Heads of Departments of the Ipoh City Council.

The proposal to make Jalan Jumbo Jet a one-way street was related to the construction of a hawker centre in the area, and presented and discussed at the Engagement Session meeting held on 13 February 2025 at Dewan Azlan Shah, Level 10, Ipoh City Council.

The on-site physical monitoring results revealed several issues were raised by residents, including:

Taman Lapangan Terbang residents have to face traffic congestion when entering the neighbourhood via Concorde Road;

Vehicles are concentrated on Concorde Road as the main access route to enter the neighbourhood and surrounding areas;

The junction in front of Carsem is congested due to the bottleneck phenomenon caused by traffic being funnelled into a single lane;

The designation of Jalan Jumbo Jet as a one-way street has resulted in a lack of alternative access routes for residents.

In this regard, among the improvements proposed by the residents included the reopening a section of Jalan Jumbo Jet, starting from the Jalan Lapangan Terbang junction to the Jalan Piper junction. It is hoped that this step can reduce the number of vehicles at the Carsem junction and provide more options for residents of Taman Lapangan Terbang to enter and exit the area via more efficient alternative routes.

This going down to the ground visit demonstrates the commitment of the Ipoh Mayor and City Council in understanding the realities at the community level and striving to find the best holistic solutions. Hopefully, this issue can be addressed in stages to ensure the well-being of the residents and to support a more sustainable and balanced urban development.
