MBI RECEIVES RM1.7 MILLION GRANT FOR 5G & AI SMART CITY DEVELOPMENT
KUALA LUMPUR, 13 AUGUST 2025 – Ipoh City Council (MBI) has successfully secured a funding grant of RM1.7 million from the Digital Ministry to implement a smart city project based on 5G and Artificial Intelligence (AI) technologies. This initiative aims to enhance the well-being of city residents and strengthen the Ipoh Smart City agenda.
This high-impact project will be implemented in collaboration with Digital Perak as a strategic partner, ensuring the full optimisation of 5G and AI technologies, thus realising the aspiration of making Ipoh one of the exemplary smart cities in Malaysia.
The grant was presented to Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah during the 5G Enterprise & AI Cities Grant 2025 Award Ceremony, held in conjunction with the ASEAN AI Malaysia Summit 2025 at the Novel Room, Level 1A, Malaysia International Trade and Exhibition Centre (MITEC).
This prestigious event was held to celebrate Malaysia's progress in driving 5G and AI technology innovation across various industrial sectors, in line with the nation's aspiration to become a regional smart city leader.
The ceremony started with a special address by David Hägerbro, President & CEO of Ericsson Malaysia, Sri Lanka & Bangladesh, followed by a welcome speech by Digital Nasional Berhad CEO Datuk Azman Ismail. The official speech was delivered by Digital Malaysia Minister Gobind Singh Deo.
