IPOH, 1 APRIL 2026 – The Ipoh City Council (MBI) held an Engagement Session on the Enforcement of Unlicensed Stalls and Relocation of Hawkers around Taman Temara, Ipoh.
The session was chaired by City Secretary Ahmad Munir Ishak and was attended by MBI Councillors, Ipoh Timor Member of Parliament’s representative, Tebing Tinggi State Assemblyman’s representative, heads/representatives of MBI departments, as well as traders and local residents to discuss the issues on enforcement of unlicensed stalls and implementation of relocation of hawkers around the Taman Temara area.
This programme served as an important platform for all parties to share views, obtain clear information and reach a mutual understanding in addressing the issue of unlicensed hawkers.
In his opening speech, Ahmad Munir emphasised that small business activities play an important role as a main source of income for the community and contribute to local economic development.
However, aspects of the residents’ well-being, environmental cleanliness, public safety and compliance with existing regulations must be given priority.
In this regard, the implementation of enforcement and relocation of unlicensed hawkers will be carried out in a planned and prudent manner, taking into account the needs of all parties.
This approach also aims to ensure more systematic, safe and conducive urban space management for both traders and consumers.
Throughout the session, three main departments, namely the Public Health & Municipal Services Department, Development Control Department and Public Works Department, provided briefings on their respective roles in the implementation of enforcement and relocation.
MBI also reiterated its commitment to implementing this process in a fair, transparent and inclusive manner, taking into account the views and welfare of traders and local residents.
It is hoped that this engagement session can be the basis for the best solution that provides mutual benefits.
MBI also calls on all parties to continue to provide cooperation and support in ensuring that the enforcement and relocation of hawkers can be implemented successfully for the well-being of the community and the sustainable development of Ipoh City.
