SWEARING-IN CEREMONY FOR APPOINTMENT OF IPOH CITY COUNCIL COUNCILLORS
IPOH, 30 MARCH 2026 – The Swearing-In Ceremony for the Appointment of Ipoh City Council (MBI) Councillors for the 16 March 2026 to 15 March 2028 term was held today at the Meeting Hall, Ipoh City Council.
The ceremony was officiated by State Housing and Local Government Committee Chairman Sandrea Ng Shy Ching, together with Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah.
Also present were Members of Parliament, Perak State Assemblymen, City Secretary and Heads of Departments of Ipoh City Council.
In her speech, Sandrea Ng stressed that the appointment of Councillors is not just a recognition, but a great trust that demands a high level of responsibility, discipline and commitment. According to her, every decision and action at the local authority level has a direct impact on the daily lives of the people.
She also emphasised that councillors need to play a role as an effective liaison between the government and the community by going down to the ground, understanding local issues and ensuring that every public complaint is addressed proactively, effectively and continuously. “The people evaluate the government through the solutions they experience, not just plans or reports,” she said.
As the largest local authority and the only city council in Perak, Ipoh City Council plays an important role as a leader in urban governance and service delivery. In this regard, Sandrea stressed that MBI must continue to strengthen administrative efficiency, improve service quality and become a benchmark for other local authorities in the state.
She also reminded that the people’s expectations of city services are high and cover aspects of daily life, such as cleanliness, infrastructure maintenance, public lighting and solid waste management.
Therefore, every complaint must be followed up with tangible solutions, continuous monitoring and clear feedback to the people.
Meanwhile, she also stressed on the importance of close cooperation between Councillors and the council administration to ensure that every policy and action can be implemented comprehensively and effectively, without the existence of a silo work culture.
In line with the vision of “Ipoh, a Smart Regional City Based on a Sustainable and Prosperous Ecosystem” and the aspirations of Perak Sejahtera 2030, the Ipoh City Council is expected to continue strengthening its role as a driver of inclusive, sustainable and competitive urban development.
The ceremony began with the oath-taking by the Mayor of Ipoh, followed by the presentation of appointment letters to the Councillors and concluded with a photo session symbolising the beginning of their new responsibilities.
Sandrea Ng Shy Ching also extended her congratulations to all the appointed Councillors and hoped that the trust entrusted to them will be carried out with integrity, sincerity and teamwork for the well-being of the people and the progress of Ipoh City.- Hits: 288
