IPOH, 30 JUNE 2025 – The Ipoh City – Medan Student Exchange Programme, held from 23 to 29 June 2025, was successfully implemented, achieving all the set targets.
A total of 9 students aged 16 to 18, accompanied by two MBI Officers, Rosidah Sohami and Nur Amalina Harun, as chaperones, returned with valuable experiences after a week-long stay in Medan, Indonesia. During the programme, the students were placed at SMA Al Azhar, Medan, and lived with host families who provided them with space to delve deeper into the local culture.
Through this involvement, students not only had the opportunity to attend learning sessions in school but also participated in various cultural activities and educational visits around the city of Medan. All the participants expressed gratitude for being able to experience the Indonesian way of life, practising communication in a new environment, and building friendships with their peers there.
According to the Accompanying Officers, the programme opened the students' minds to better appreciate cultural diversity, fostered mutual respect, and enhanced their self-confidence in interacting on an international level.
City Community Director Romzi Zamri said the success of this programme proves the commitment of both twin cities in strengthening bilateral relations via education and cultural exchange. He also expressed his gratitude to the Medan City Government and all the host families who welcomed the students from Ipoh with open arms.
Overall, the programme achieved its goal of producing a younger generation that is more open-minded, globally aware, and ready to become little ambassadors in fostering closer ties between Ipoh and Medan in the future.
