SIMULTANEOUS OPENING OF ASEAN SUSTAINABLE URBANISATION FORUM (ASUF) 2025, ASEAN GOVERNORS AND MAYORS FORUM (AGMF) 2025, AND MEETING OF GOVERNORS AND MAYORS OF ASEAN CAPITALS (MGMAC) 2025

KUALA LUMPUR, 12 AUGUST 2025 – The Opening Ceremony of the ASEAN Sustainable Urbanisation Forum (ASUF) 2025, ASEAN Governors and Mayors Forum (AGMF) 2025 and Meeting of Governors and Mayors of ASEAN Capitals (MGMAC) 2025 was held with great festivity at the Plenary Hall, Level 1, Kuala Lumpur Convention Centre.

The ceremony began with an opening address by Kuala Lumpur Mayor Dato’ Seri (Dr.) Maimunah Mohd Sharif, followed by speeches from UCLG ASPAC Secretary-General Dr. Bernadia Irawati Tjandradewi, UN-Habitat Executive Director AnaClaudia Rossbach, and ASEAN Secretary-General Dr. Kao Kim Hourn. The session was also enlivened by a performance from the Permata Seni Choir.

The event continued with a conference video screening and a special presentation by the stakeholders' assembly, followed by a special keynote address delivered by Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming.

The highlight of the event was the opening keynote address by Deputy Prime Minister II Dato’ Seri Fadillah Yusof, who officially launched ASUF, AGMF and MGMAC 2025.

This prestigious event was also attended by Ipoh Mayor Zamakhshari Hanipah, together with city leaders from Malaysia and ASEAN countries, local government representatives and urban development experts. Their presence strengthened strategic discussions on the direction of more sustainable urban development in the ASEAN region.

Also present were Councillors, Department Heads and officers of the Ipoh City Council. This forum served as a key platform for sharing best practices, strengthening regional collaboration networks and formulating joint initiatives to achieve the Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs) at the ASEAN level.
